ULMA Trench Drain System at the Iconic Port Vauban, Antibes (France)

Vauban Port France

Located along the French Riviera, Port Vauban is one of the Mediterranean’s premier marinas, capable of docking up to 1,500 vessels, including some of the world’s largest yachts. As part of an ambitious redevelopment plan led by the CCI Nice Côte d'Azur and designed by renowned architect Philippe Prost (AAPP) in partnership with the engineering firm OGI, ULMA was selected to provide its Kompaqdrain KVFDH150 trench drain systems—tailored specifically to the challenges of this high-performance marine setting.

Need help with a complex drainage setup? Our Technical Office is ready to help design a trench drain system that works as hard as your site demands.

Phased Installation and Custom-Engineered Solution

The installation was carried out in two phases, ensuring the port’s operations remained uninterrupted during peak season—a major logistical and technical feat. This achievement was made possible through close collaboration between the client, designers, engineers, and contractors like TP Spada and Eurovia.

A key challenge: optimizing the hydraulic performance of the system within the spatial and functional constraints of a high-traffic marina.

The Technical Solution: Cascading Trench Drains with MaxFlow® Technology

ULMA’s Engineering Office developed, in collaboration with TP Spada and Eurovia, a drainage system that delivers both structural durability and superior hydraulic performance. At its core is a cascading trench drain layout using monolithic KOMPAQDRAIN® KVFDH150.20R and KVFDH150.30R trench drains—crafted from polymer concrete, known for its excellent corrosion resistance and marine-grade durability.

The system utilizes ULMA’s proprietary MaxFlow® technology. Its V-shaped interior and gradually increasing cross-section enhance water flow while minimizing sediment build-up. The system’s depth varies along the run to accommodate increasing flow, delivering key advantages:

  • Enhanced water flow velocity and drainage capacity.
  • Reduced sediment thanks to progressive inlet expansion.
  • Compact design ideal for tight jobsite installation.
  • High hydraulic efficiency without system oversizing.

A Port Built for the Future

This project is a cornerstone in Port Vauban’s evolution into a European leader in sustainable, high-performance marina infrastructure. At ULMA, we’re proud to contribute tailored trench drain solutions that meet the demands of tomorrow’s ports.
