ULMA's drainage channels at the Ribera Market in Bilbao- North Spain
The Mercado de la Ribera, located next to Bilbao Estuary, is a commercial reference for the whole of Biscay. In 1990 it was recognised as the most complete Municipal Food Market by the Guinness Book of Records, as the largest market at that time. It currently contains three floors and 186 stalls, offering products of all kinds: meat, fruit, fish, seafood, cheeses, cold meats, frozen items, mushrooms... In addition, it is being prepared to face a long period of work to make the best use of the space available, and in this context ULMA Architectural Solutions has been selected to provide the best solution in terms of drainage channels.
MINI and SELF drainage channels
ULMA Architectural Solutions has supplied two types of channels; the MINI low-profile drainage channels for the inside of the market and the channels in the SELF system for the surrounding area. MINI low-profile channels are specially designed for areas with height limitations, which is why they have been chosen for the inside of the market. The model used was the M100K with heal-proof slotted composite grating.
For the area around the market, SELF system drainage channels were chosen, as these channels offer the best solution for pedestrian areas. The model used in this case was the SELFKX with stainless steel profile and stainless steel anti-slip slotted grating, ideal for withstanding loads in areas that can only be used by pedestrians and cyclists like the area around the Market.
